Tamar project

Southern Brazil is an important feeding place for sea turtles, mainly in the juvenile stages. Its cold sands do not provide a good place for reproduction, which is why turtle spawning events are rare in this region.

In 2005, the Fundação Projeto Tamar de Florianópolis was created to support activities carried out in the southern region, which are focused on mitigating the impact of fishing on sea turtles. The Visitors Center was inaugurated in the same year with the objective of raising awareness and environmental awareness. This is done by visiting tourists, groups and schools.
