Tribute to culture in Aldeia dos Indios
Aldeia dos Índios, in Parque Florybal, portrays, through life-size sculptures, the indigenous culture in Brazil. Before the arrival of the Portuguese in Brazilian territory, around the year 1500, the Indians in our land already formed a population of, on average, 5 million natives.
Today, around only 400,000 Indians occupy the national territory, especially in Indian reservations demarcated by the government. The growing contact with the white man over the years caused the loss of cultural identity of many tribes.
Thus, this place portrays the customs, habits and indigenous culture through perfect replicas, recognizing the importance and inestimable value of the Indians to our nation.
