Black Lake of Gramado
The total area of the park is 89,336m² and that of the lake is 17,470m². Its depth reaches 14 meters. A visit to Lago Negro is recommended at any time of day.
Whether in the morning for a good walk or at dusk to sit and have a chimarrão – as the place is always busy. Hydrangeas and azaleas take turns and each season they border the lake, bringing color and life, providing moments of relaxation and contemplation.
Lago Negro was opened by Leopoldo Rosenfeldt, who was one of the first people to see Gramado’s tourist potential. Due to a tragic fire that occurred in 1942, most of the trees were completely burned. To try to contain the fire, residents opened a crack in the ground, where they found a slope, which would later be transformed into an artificial lake, the Lago Negro.
Originally, that area was called Vale do Bom Retiro and belonged to the Bier family. In 1953, on the initiative of Leopoldo Rosenfeldt, the site was reforested. He imported from the Black Forest region of Germany (his home country) tree seedlings that were planted around the lake.
