Porto in Porto Alegre
Originally built between 1912 and 1921, it is located in Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul – Brazil. It reproduces the port area of the state capital with its warehouses – better known as Cais do Porto.
It is located on the left bank of the Guaíba, at Avenida Mauá nº 1050, in the Centro district, in Porto Alegre. It unites the regional production center with one of the largest maritime ports in Mercosur, the Port of Rio Grande.
The construction of the port was contracted with the engineering company of Rudolf Ahrons, under the supervision of Dr. Cândido Godoy, and the works began in 1912. On August 26, 1913, 146 meters of pier were completed, with a depth of four meters , and with the consequent expansion of the central area of the city by 180 meters, resulting from the landfills carried out.
The works were halted until 1919, when they were speedily resumed by the President of the State Borges de Medeiros, completing in 1921 another 490 m of pier with their respective landfills.
