If you want to feel the energy of Gramado you need to visit the Rua Coberta. Located right in the center of town, it is a space that brings together restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. It is the stage for several cultural presentations and many events, including the Film Festival – when a huge red carpet is rolled out all the way from the Rua Coberta to the entrance of the Festivals Palace. Then, for a week, artists, directors, producers, and the national and international press parade down the Rua Coberta, which is filled with the public that wants to see all the excitement up close. During another great event, Natal Luz, the Rua Coberta gets a special decoration and one of the most traditional attractions of the event takes place there: the Singing Tree presentations. Attractions during the Easter season and the traditional Gastronomy Festival are also held there.
It is 100 meters long and connects the city’s main avenue – Borges de Medeiros – to Garibaldi Street. A meeting point for tourists the whole year round, the Rua Coberta has free access and serves as a shelter for rainy days, where you can sit down without haste and enjoy a good time.
The stores are usually open until 7 pm (but during the Natal Luz season they are open until 9 pm), while the restaurants and coffee shops are open until midnight. For those who want to enjoy a movie, it is easy because the Palácio dos Festivais (the city’s only movie theater) is right in front of Rua Coberta. But for those who prefer a moment of introspection, you can go to the Igreja Matriz, which is next to the movie theater, a few meters away. To enjoy Gramado is to enjoy one of its main references: the Rua Coberta (Covered Street).
