Castelinho Caracol

Castelinho Caracol, one of the first residences in the municipality of Canela, was built at the beginning of the 20th century, between 1913 and 1915. Pedro Carlos Franzen, married to Luiza Sommer, built it. The couple had six children: Fernando, Alfredo, Cora and Ivone born in Caracol, Irene the eldest, who stayed at Castelinho and Anita, both born in Sesmaria Machado.

The residence was built in araucaria wood, a pine tree typical of the region, with a system of fittings and screws, without the use of nails. The wood received an immersion treatment for 6 months in the water of the Arroio Caracol. This is a biological treatment to, after being sawn and dry naturally, in the shade, to become durable.
